Summary

Born on 11th of May, 1974 in Chinnamanur, a small town in the State of Tamilnadu (India), Shri.J.Krishna Kumar obtained initial training from Mrs.Chitra Ramanathan in Chinnamanur. Post his school education, he went to the world's most acclaimed institute for classical dances, "Kalakshetra Foundation" in Chennai (India), where he secured a Diploma in Bharathanatyam. He learned dance techniques from Prof.C.V.Chandrasekhar (Padma Bhushan Awardee) and Ms.Jaya Chandrasekhar for over 25 years as "Prathama Sishya".

J.Krishna Kumar is at the forefront among Bharathanatyam dancers and has received various awards & rewards for his vocational excellence in the field of dance viz, as classical dancer, choreographer, tutor and performing artiste at national & international levels. He performed dance at various cultural programs at Austria, Australia, Japan, Hugary, Mauritius, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, United States of America, France, Germany to name a few. He performed dance at events organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India and delivered lecture demonstrations & workshops at various Indian and foreign universities in the field of Bharathanatyam. In addition to dance, he is trained in practical and theoretical forms of Carnatic Music. He is highly proficient in Tamil linguistics specialized in Oratory, and performed as Emcee in Tamil for Bharathanatyam dance festivals in the country.

  • Honoured with title "Yuvakala Vipanchee" by Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna from Vipanchee.

  • Awarded with "Nrithya Kala Rathna" from Nirutha Indian Fine Arts, Australia

  • Honoured with "Nrithya Kala Jyothi" by Rasikapriya Sabha at Jaffna, Sri Lanka

  • Honoured with "Swarna Kamal Award" presented by Shri.K.J.Alphons (Minister for Tourism, Govt. of India) at New Delhi.

  • Awarded with Title "Swayam Prakasha Narthaka" in "Sarasalaya Platinum Jubilee Awards" by Sarasalaya School of Bharathanatyam, Chennai

Performance Summary

  • Lead Actor, Choreogrpahed by Prof.C.V.Chandrasekhar, Notably "Bramargeeth", "Kreeda" and "Kumbeswarar Kuravanji".

  • "Meghadhootam" in Kuwait under the production banner of Prof.C.V.Chandrasekhar for the Govt. of India.

  • Mauritius program conducted by the Ministry of Art & Culture.

  • Various programs in Japan for 4 times, notably in 2002 in over 20 places and the first Indian to perform Bharathanatyam in Furano city.

  • Various programs in the European continent viz in Austria, Hungary, etc.

  • One of the few Indians to perform in Carnegie Hall in the United States of America sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

  • Conducted various workshops and given honourable performances in Australia for 4 times.

  • Solo Thematic Presentatio in Tamil "Sivame! Thavame! Porule!" extracted from Thevaram, Thiruvasagam and Thirumandiram across Tamilnadu.

  • "Colours of India" - a social program specialising in Folk dances - organised to raise funds to revive Palar River in Vellore district of Tamilnadu.

  • Showcased history of own birth place - Chinnamanur, by performing to "Poolanandeswarer Sivakami" song at Chinnamanur Sivakami Temple, which was telecasted in local television channels and published in Youtube.

  • Lecuture demonstration & performance at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sankrit, Kalady, Ernakulam District, Kerala State (India).

  • Lecuture demonstration & performance at University of Jaffna (Sri Lanka) and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Colombo (Sri Lanka).

Work Experience

  • Working as Technical Instructor (Bharathanatyam) and Chief Choreographer at Saraswati Kala Kendra, Vellore, Tamilnadu (India) for past 25 years teaching rural students.

  • Founder - Shri Nrithyalaya, School of Classical Dance in Chennai (India)

  • Trained and choreographed for several dance ballets in Tamil, notably "Paadhuka Pattabhishekam", "Panchali Sabatham", "Alamundakandan", "Swagatham Krishna" and "Pranasakha Sri Krishna"

  • Acted in Bharathanatyam based shortfilm "Mugaari" directed by Mr.Suvikumar which won in the Goa Film Festival.

  • Served as senior member of the Executive Board of ABHAI (Association of Bharathanatyam Artistes of India)
